SHIPPING INFORMATION
The Airline Shipping Process
For almost all of my animal shipments, I use Continental Airlines because they have a climate controlled cargo hold, which means the pup does not get too hot or too cold during the flight.
During flight layovers, the pup is kept in an area which is also climate controlled.
1-2-3 Steps to Shipping a Puppy
First, I reserve a space with the airline, using the shipper's information (me) and the consignee's information (customer's address and two phone numbers). I want the shortest flight so the puppy will not be in the crate any longer than necessary.
Second, I visit my vet for a vet's health certificate which states that the animal is in good health and able to withstand an airplane flight from one destination to another. My pups usually depart from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on the 6:15am flight. Continental flies from OKC to Houston (their hub or home) then on to the pup's final destination airport.
Third, customer picks up puppy in baggage claim office or at Continental's cargo facility within 30 minutes of arrival. Puppy usually arrives with a clean crate but it is always a good idea to be prepared with spay cleaner and paper towels.
If pup misses connecting flight, and arrives at destination airport later than scheduled, feeding cups are attached to the shipping crate door so airline personnel can feed and water pup.
Some puppies may be a little reluctant to leave their crate after arrival; however most are really happy to see whoever opens the crate door.
Based on my own experiences and internet research, the airline shipping process is simple and safe. I have not heard or been told that the shipping experience was traumatic to the animal or resulted in a physical or emotional condition. I would not ship my dogs if I even thought it was harmful or dangerous to the animal.
All shipping receipts are available to customer upon request.
More Shipping Information!
Although airlines allow puppies to be shipped as early as eight weeks of age, I usually wait until the puppy is at least 10-12 weeks old before shipping. I ship only puppies with strong personalities. I use my own judgement and experience to decide whether or not to ship a puppy who I think may or may not be affected by the shipping process.
